It held the line remarkably well, and unlike Tesla, the throttle still engaged the axles in a diminished capacity. When the road slush from the day turned to ice at night, and a new layer of snow arrived, I sought out a parking lot to relive my teen years and was disappointed by how much grip it had. Such is the tradeoff for good handling.Īnother notable attribute of the Mach-E was its snow and ice handling. The Mach-E was louder on the highway than other crossovers, but the highway ride quality was soft as a blanket compared to the Model 3. Keep in mind, the temperature was about 2 degrees. They both ride stiffly, jumping around like a Californian encountering all these Midwestern road imperfections. But the Model 3 tucks in and out of corners like a proper sedan. The Model 3 owner remarked on the high seating position and tall ride height in the Mach-E the visual command of the road is one big reason why car shoppers choose crossovers like the similar Tesla Model Y. The Model 3 hugs the ground, has three steering settings, and even the one with the least resistance, “Comfort,” felt sportier than the Mach-E’s steering. Take the Ford if you drive at all in winterīecause most of the weight stretches below the floor and between the axles, the Model 3 has a low center of gravity that makes for good handling for its size. The Model 3 feels quicker because, at about 4,900 lb, the Mach-E weighs a whopping 1,250 lb more than the Model 3. Don’t worry, such artifice can be disabled. Three drive modes adjust throttle response and power delivery, and the top Unbridled mode even pipes in some pony car engine thrum. But off the line, up to about 30 mph, it’s plenty quick. The response of the Mach-E at highway speed was duller. Winter tires or all-wheel drive would make it quicker off the line, or you could wait until the sun shines, a common wish in the Midwest. This jibes with its higher horsepower number. ![]() Once moving, the Tesla had more power for highway passing. Off the line, it hesitated until it built up enough incremental motion to assure grip, then it took off. Tesla reportedly added a “dyno mode” to the Model 3 last year that lets you disable traction control but we didn’t tempt it. When the Model 3 starts to slip, the traction control cuts throttle response until there’s grip. Ford doesn’t publish a top speed for it, but an estimated 130-mph top end means the Tesla Model 3 is both quicker and faster. The Mach-E GT reaches 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Ford Mustang Mach-E hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds in Select trim, and 4.8 seconds in Premium grade. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive edition does it in 4.2 seconds and reaches 145 mph the Performance edition, in 3.1 seconds as it can reach a claimed 162 mph. Snow flurries and single-digit temperatures in our Midwestern suburban neighborhood provided the backdrop for the road test. Another person wrote to him, “Are you going to shoot up a school or something?” to which Ramos responded, “No, stop asking dumb questions. Ten days before the shooting, he wrote in one of the messages, “10 more days,” according to the official. And Texas Department of Public Safety officials said Friday that Ramos had discussed buying a gun several times in private chats on Instagram. Greg Abbott (R) said Wednesday that Ramos had also written, “I’m going to shoot my grandmother” and “I’m going to shoot an elementary school” shortly before the attack in messages on Facebook. Williams would not say what law prevents the company from commenting. “As there is an ongoing and active investigation and because this information concerns a specific individual’s data, we are not legally able to share these details publicly at this time,” she said in an email. Yubo spokeswoman Amy Williams would not say whether the company received reports of abuse related to Ramos’s account. He never heard back, he said, and the account remained active. He and his friends reported Ramos’s account to Yubo for bullying and other infractions dozens of times. “I witnessed him harass girls and threaten them with sexual assault, like rape and kidnapping,” said the teen. In a video from a live Yubo chatroom that listeners had recorded and was reviewed by The Post, Ramos could be heard saying, “Everyone in this world deserves to get raped.”Ī 16-year-old boy in Austin who said he saw Ramos frequently in Yubo panels, told The Post that Ramos frequently made aggressive, sexual comments to young women on the app and sent him a death threat during one panel in January. The girls who spoke with The Post lived around the world but met Ramos on Yubo, an app that mixes live-streaming and social networking and has become known as a “Tinder for teens.” The Yubo app has been downloaded more than 18 million times in the U.S., including more than 200,000 times last month, according to estimates from the analytics firm Sensor Tower. The Washington Post reviewed videos, posts and text messages sent by Ramos and spoke with four young people who’d talked with him online, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of further harassment. They’d been seen by strangers, many of whom had never met him and had found him only through the social messaging and video apps that form the bedrock of modern teen life. ![]() ![]() Switch weapons - Numeric keys About the creator:īlockpost was created by Skullcap Studios. In the aftermath of the deadliest school shooting in a decade, many have asked what more could have been done - how an 18-year-old who spewed so much hate to so many on the Web could do so without provoking punishment or raising alarm.īut these threats hadn’t been discovered by parents, friends or teachers. This experiment takes place in a political system with a manifest status-quo bias in its policymaking, backed by a high degree of judicialisation of decision-making, while facing increased politicisation and economic heterogeneity.ĭue to enlargement and economic crises that are fuelled by the uneven working of the Euro-regime, the differences among EU member states in economic development and welfare provision have increased and, therefore, also has the potential for welfare migration. Geddes and Hadj-Abdou describe it as ‘a radical experiment in open borders (…) uneasily coupled with a continued attachment in member states to social solidarity and cohesion associated with national welfare states’ (Geddes and Hadj-Abdou 2016: 222). In fact, the European Union is exceptional among all regional organisations in granting wide-ranging free movement rights among its member states, and this in a context where some of the member states have the most developed welfare states worldwide. While the British situation was unique, the potential of politicisation of free movement rights is evident. In the Brexit referendum, the issues of exempting recently settled EU citizens from social benefits or even limiting their settlement fared high. Since Eastern enlargement and particularly after Bulgaria and Romania reached full free movement rights in 2014, the potential of welfare migration is contentiously discussed. Yet, equal treatment and free movement itself have come under challenge. Over time, it has been extended to EU citizens more generally and infused with equal treatment rights. The free movement of workers is a cornerstone of European integration. ![]() Finally, it analyses the mechanisms that activate attitudinal polarisation on intra-EU migration and welfare. The different contributions bring together the normative, legal and political developments and about-turns which dynamically square the circle of pan-European social solidarity. This collection explores the current dynamics, scope and limits of free movement and welfare equal treatment for EU citizens on the move. Whereas the relationship between the EU and the welfare state appeared largely reconciled before the grand enlargement of 2004, economic downturn and politicisation question the nexus anew. The European Union’s (EU) fundamental principles of free movement of persons and non-discrimination have long challenged the traditional closure of the welfare state. |
